Legal issues and controversies
In 2006, the regional court Leipzig pronounced the judgment (Urteil v. 8. Februar 2005 - Az.: 5 O 146/05), that Armin Wirth isn’t allowed to use or display the word “Deejay“ as marketing measurement or on his homepages and audio hi-fi products anymore.
A German online shop owner claimed that he is the owner of all rights of the word “Deejay”.
In January 2007, the regional appeal court Dresden declared that everyone can use “Deejay” and that this is a word which needs to keep a mark free for the trade.
Armin Wirth took over the Stuttgart-based Nova MD GmbH in 2014 ( he has already handed over his company to his former employees) The company faced numerous professional and ethical criticisms: there are contracted music publishing partners (from small to large) who have not received their legitimate income from Nova Md to this day. In September 2026, 5 music labels will launch a joint legal action against Nova for the illegal appropriation of their own physical CDs and vinyl records.
